It had 2 happen…

with all the lil woodland creatures running around EverChill the odds of taking out a critter definitely favor the house. WARNING – if you love lil fluffy bunny rabbits, then please do not read on.

Now for those still reading here’s the story. This morning I hopped on the steed at 5:00 AM for a Tour de EverChill. The temp was a pleasant 37 degrees due in part to the cloudy sky above. As I rolled down Sugarbush, not more than a quarter mile from the house, I spotted an object out the corner of my eye bounding toward me. It was a cute lil bunny rabbit. A quick observation put me and the steed directly in the bunny’s path and with a Thud, Thud, Thud (about a dozen or so thuds)…. the observation was confirmed. That dumb azz bunny leaped right into the back wheel of the steed. The rabbit’s body smacked the seat stay, the chain, the chain stay, and the rear derailleur a number of times as the wheel rolled on. Upon safely stopping the limp carcass flopped out of the wheel and onto the ground. As the lifeless bunny laid there, I felt sorry for the lil guy. I looked at the bunny and told him I was sorry for what happened to him. I do not know why the bunny was bounding toward the road, maybe it was being chased by a coyote or it could have been spooked by the sound of the wheels rolling over the gravel, either way the rabbit’s instinct to flee lead to his demise. After a moment of silence I remounted the steed and continued on the ride, that’s exactly what the bunny would have wanted.

Lastly, the Mamasita deserves a name change. Verminator may doo just fine.

Today, as I thumbed through the latest Dirt Rag Mag #146 from back to front. I was surprised to spot the photo that I sent in a few months back at the top of page 65.

Here’s the original blog entry: A Slice of Heaven

4 What

As I slip slowly back into the training thingy, one question comes to mind. What event(s) am I training for in 2010? The event will need to be eazy on the wallet. The event should not include the same loop after loop after loop, since I become bored eazily. The events that I seek should include varied terrain, single track, point to point would be cool or one big friggen loop. A Multi-day event may be for me, but I wonder how the wife would react to such an event. Would it be best to try to fit in a vacation after a multi-day event, maybe this would be an eazier sell. Wish me luck…to be continued.

Opposed to Cap and Tax

The “Cap and Trade” bill is back, and if Congress gets its way,
it will cost American families upwards of $3,000 annually!

Meanwhile there is a growing body of evidence suggesting
that man-made global warming is not a crisis at all.

I just signed Grassfire’s national petition opposing the “Cap and Trade”
legislation, and I’m asking you to do the same by clicking HERE.

Ouch!

The words uttered before I hit the deck were not rated-G, more like ‘R’. Last night I was caulking the gap between the beam and the drywall along the vaulted ceiling in our bedroom. Every thing was moving along well and I was just about finished smoothing the caulk with the right index finger. For some reason the right index finger makes the perfect caulk seam. Anyways, As I reached to swipe the last section of caulk; the ladder disappeared from under my feet and I hit the floor with a THUD. The impact with the floor knocked the wind out of me but luckily I was conscious and able to get up after a few minutes of lying there wondering WTF just happened.

With the adrenaline flowing like water over a fall, I felt OK; nothing on me appeared to be broken. However, 20 minutes later I became disoriented, the back of my head throbbed, I felt nauseous, and began to shake uncontrollably.

When I was working on the ladder I had a headlamp on to assist with lighting the work area. And this light had a battery pack positioned on the back of my head. So, when I hit the floor the back of my head absorbed the impact of the battery pack smacking the floor. Fearing I’d go to sleep and not wake up I hopped in the car and drove down to the ER for a quick once over. After a cat scan of my head and neck the Doc said everything looked normal and that I suffered a mild concussion, since I did not black out.

I was relieved to know that the cat scan looked normal, thus proving that I have a brain, now I just need to learn how to use it better.

This morning I went out and inspected the ladder and took a few measurements.

PB100001

Apparently the right leg of the ladder failed and caused the ladder to fall. I was standing on the second rung from the top of the ladder – that’s 6ft off the ground. When I landed the upper back and shoulders hit the floor first and the back of the left knee smacked the lower left leg of the ladder. So while I was only six feet off the floor, the shoulders were 58 inches higher, thus putting the fall at around 11ft – OUCH!

Needless to say I’ll be off the bike for a few daze, but luckily I’ll be able to ride again.

How far R U willing to ride for a 6-pack of Day Ole Bagels? One mile, Five Miles, maybe Ten miles, how about 20 miles and 2100′ vert.

Even though The Bagelery is 1.5 miles from the house – they do not open until 6:00AM. So I rode around EverChill and Kittyland and picked up the day ole’s on my way back to the house.

The Autumn Melt is On

•November 3, 2009 • 2 Comments

This past Sunday the thermometer hit 60 deg F in EverChill and with warm temps predicted this week that can only mean one thing – The Autumn Melt is On. Soon scenery, shown below, will be void of snow for at least a week or two.PB010099

And with the roads mostly ride-able, Juth and I ventured out (unbeknownst to either of us) to see who could return with the filthiest bike (click pic below for more dirty pics).

Maybe Congress and The All Mighty Obama (everyone on your knees) can INTERVENE and stop this storm from coming by passing some useless climate CONTROL legislation. I could go for 72 deg F and partly Sunny everyday (I burn eazily). Did ya Get that Bennett and Udall…Is that really too much to ask for.

*****Updated 10/27/09 – Obviously I had a couple too many last evening – at least I was able to remember to use the “Check Spelling” feature.

Latest beef – what’s with the Weather channel and the Evergreen Temp. This morning at 4:28am Local on the 8’s stated Evergreen at 41 deg F and 25 mph winds WNW. This reading could not be more off – when I stepped out the door it was 38 deg F and No Wind.

I definitely need to make a small investment on a home based weather station. Any one have a good recommendation on a “non-global warming based” personal weather reading device.
